Dr. Cyrus Adler, president of Dropsie College, has accepted the chairmanship of the Philadelphia Committee of the Palestine Emergency Fund for the purpose of appealing to the Jews of this city to make generous contributions, so that immediate relief might be brought to their co-religionists in Palestine.
Leaders in the Jewish community of this city attended a conference called by Albert H. Lieberman, chairman of the United Jewish Campaign.
Dr. Adler expressed the fear that the damage done is much greater than has been reported thus far in the newspapers. It will take several more days. Dr. Adler said, before the world will be fully appraised of the actual condition of affairs. There is no doubt about it, some of the finest Jewish colonies, the pride of the Jewish people of the whole world, have been completely wiped out. Even after peace and order is restored, it will take time before these colonists will be fully rehabilitated. The present fund, Dr. Adler added, is an emergency fund. It cannot be said definitely yet to what extent financial aid will have to be forthcoming from the Jews of America.
Albert M. Greenfield was made treasurer of the Fund. Albert H. Lieberman and Louis E. Levinthal were named vice-chairmen of the committee, with Jacob Solis-Cohen, Jr., assistant treasurer, and Mrs. David Friedlaender, secretary.
