The grant of an honorary professorship at the Hebrew University at which he is a lecturer was made to Dr. David Yellin on the occasion of his seventieth birthday, which was celebrated here. Two hundred guests attended the banquet held in his honor at which Dr. J. L. Magnes, Chancellor of the University, made the announcement. Menachem Mendel Ussishkin, veteran Zionist leader, presided.
Dr. Yellin was born in Jerusalem and at the outset of the British occupation was chairman of the Vaad Leumi and later vice Mayor of Jerusalem. He was termed “ambassador of Palestine Jewry,” whose cause he represented for many years. Joshua Yellin, Dr. Yellin’s father, who died some years ago at the age of eighty-four, was also born in Jerusalem.
