Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, sent a strong protest today to Heinrich von Brentano, West German Foreign Minister, over the reported agreement between Bonn and Paris to disinter the remains of Nazi victims from their common grave at the concentration camp and permit the reburial of the remains of French nationals and others in special cemeteries.
Dr. Goldmann’s note to von Brentano said that moving the remains would cause “anguish and anxiety” to survivors of the Nazi camp and to relatives of the victims. It will have no practical significance, he pointed out, because of the decomposed state of the bodies.
(Representatives of North German Jewish communities met in Bremen, meanwhile, to protest the French reinterment plan, terming it “unnecessary and an unjustified outrage.” The parley decided to take further steps to foil the plan.)
