The significant role played by the late Dr. Stephen S. Wise in the development of the American Zionist movement was emphasized here last night by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, addressing a meeting of Brith Rishonim, an organization of veteran Zionists.
Dr. Goldmann traced Dr. Wise’s services to the Zionist cause from 1897. Dr. Wise was among the earliest Americans, who, as a delegate, attended in Europe, the Zionist Congresses convened by Dr. Theodor Herzl. Dr. Herzl presented Dr. Wise with a signet ring which, some 40 years later, Dr. Wise gave to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, the first President of the Republic of Israel.
