Dr. Israel Goldstein, rabbi emeritus of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in New York and now a Jerusalem resident, today delivered a prayer opening a session of the House of Representatives. Dr. Goldstein, world chairman of the Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal, prayed for peace and “wise guidance to … nations beset with problems at home and abroad.” Speaker of the House John W. McCormack recalled in the House his own efforts together with Rabbi Goldstein and the late Dr. Abba Hillel Silver to try to win Congressional support for a “program to establish a free and independent Jewish commonwealth in Palestine.”
