Dr. Harry Shulman, dean of Yale Law School and a nationally known labor arbitrator, died here yesterday at the age of 51. Last May he was the recipient of a B’nai B’rith Americanism award.
Dr. Shulman, once a law secretary to the late Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, held the Lines and Sterling Professor ships of Law at Yale. He was the arbitrator between the Ford Motor Company and the United Automobile Workers of America as well as arbitrator between that union and a number of other major industrial firms.
Dr. Shulman came to this country in 1912 with his parents from Russia. He was graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Brown University, having helped support himself and his family throughout his school career by selling newspapers. He is the author of a number of books, including one written with Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter.
