Dr. Georges Hayem, noted physician and surgeon and former president of the French Academy of Medicine, died here yesterday at the age of 92. Born in Paris of Jewish descent, Dr. Hayem early became known for his work in many fields of medicine. His work was given recognition in 1886 when he was made a member of the French Legion of Honor.
He spent several years as professor of therapeutics and materia medica at the Hospital of St. Antoine, and later taught at other French institutions. He wrote several treatises on various aspects of medicine and surgery. Among his better known experiments was treatment of cholera involving cold-water injections.
