Dr. Henry B. Shmookler, one of the founders and for more than 25 years medical director of Mt. Sinai Hospital here, was killed almost instantly when the automobile in which he was riding collided early today with another machine at Sand Hill near Princeton.
Dr. Harry Saltzmann, of the medical staff of Mount Sinai Hospital; Miss Esther Miller, Superintendent of the Nurses, and Miss Doris Kramer, a niece of Dr. Shmookler, were injured in the accident.
The party was returning from New York where they had gone to bid farewell to Dr. James H. Mandel, former staff physician of the hospital, departing for Europe for medical research work.
Dr. Shmookler was one of the most popular Jewish physicians in this city. Two years ago when the millionaire Jewish philanthropist, Jacob D. Lit, suddenly became ill in Paris, he telephoned Dr. Shmookler, who temporarily diagnosed the case and left immediately for Europe.
He was active in many Jewish and medical organizations.
