Dr. Herman M. Adler of Chicago has been appointed consultant and director of survey in the field of psychiatric phases of criminology by the National Commission on Law Observance and Enforcement, it was announced here.
Dr. Adler is state criminologist of Illinois, having served in that capacity for twelve years. During the World War he made a special study for the War Department of men confined in military prisons. He is Professor of Criminology and head of the Department of Social Hygiene, Medical Jurisprudence and Criminology at the Medical College of the University of Illinois. Dr. Adler is engaged in making a psychiatric study for the Boston crime survey and made a similar study in 1920 in connection with the Cleveland crime survey. His work for the commission will include psychiatric phases and the causes of crime and the treatment of criminals.
