Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for Dr. Abraham M. Hershman, one of the most distinguished religious leaders in America who died of a heart attack yesterday. He was 78 years old.

Born in Poland, he graduated from City College in New York and was ordained rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1906. For more than 40 years he served as rabbi in Detroit, where he was the founder and the first president of the local chapter of the Zionist Organization of America. The Hapoel Hamizrachi established a library in Israel in his honor. He had also been honored by the Jewish National Fund, Israel Bond Organization and the ZOA.

He had written several books, notably a translation of the Book of Judges of Maimond ides Code of Rabbinic Law in 1951, as part of the Yale Judaical Series. Other works were two collections of sermons, “Israel’s Fate and Faith,” and “Religion of the Age and of the Ages,” and a historical study, “Rabbi Isaac Perfet and His Times.”
