Dr. Hirsch W. Honor, an active Zionist and Jewish Communal worker, died Wednesday, April 23, at his home. He was for many years the president of the Harlem Zionist District No. 8, and served for 20 years as house physician of the Home for the Aged, entitled, Home of the Daughters of Israel of Harlem. In all these years he offered his services gratis.
Dr. Honor was born in Volynia, in 1861, and was graduated from the Gymnasium at Libau and the University of Charkov in 1889, He served during several cholera and typhoid epidemics in Russia. He came to this country in 1901 and in two months’ time mastered the language sufficiently to pass the medical State Board examinations. He received a thorough Jewish training and belonged to the Maskilim group in Russia.
He participated in the first Russian-Zionist Conference and was elected to the first Zionist Congress in Basle. In 1928 he realized his great dream to visit Palestine, where he spent a year. Although already incapacitated, he, nevertheless, insisted upon visiting every part of the country.
