Funeral services were held at Cambridge today for Dr. Israel Taglicht, 81, former chief rabbi of Vienna, who fled to Britain in 1939.
Dr. Taglicht was named chief rabbi of the Austrian capital in December, 1937 and retained the post until he was forced to leave the country. During the anti-Jewish riots in Vienna following the seizure of Austria by the Germans in 1938, he was forced to parade through the streets of Vienna with a placard: “I am a Jew.” Later he was confined in a concentration camp for some time.
