Dr. Israel S. Wechsler, internationally known neurologist and Jewish communal leader, was elected president of the Conference on Jewish Social Studies at the organization’s 22nd annual meeting held last night. He succeeds Professor Salo W. Baron of Columbia University, who was named honorary president.
At the same time, the name of the organization was officially changed from Conference on Jewish Relations to Conference on Jewish Social Studies. The new name, it was felt, would better reflect the purpose of the organization to promote, by means of scientific study and research, a better understanding of the position of the Jews in the modern world.
