Dr. Joseph M, Rice, founder of the Society of Educational Research and noted author and educator, died of heart trouble.
Dr. Rice was born in Philadelphia in 1857. He was educated in New York and practiced medicine there from 1881 to 1888, after which he went abroad to study at the University of Jena and Leipsic.
On his return he became active in educational work and in 1897 was appointed editor of the Forum Magazine, a post he held for ten years.
