Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, chairman of the European executive council of the Joint Distribution Committee left today by air from LaGuardia Field for London and Paris where he will resume direction of the JDC’s relief and rehabilitation activities for distressed Jews in nearly every country on the continent.
Edward M. M. Warburg, national chairman of the JDC, announced today that 500,000 women, members of 15 national Jewish organizations, have volunteered to serve as collectors during the “SOS Collection for Supplies for Overseas Survivors,” by means of which it is hoped to obtain 20,000,000 pounds of food, medical supplies and other necessities for surviving European Jews. Mrs. Nathan Strauss of New York will head the drive.
