Dr. Joseph Kaplan, an American-Jewish scientist, was elected today as president of the 13th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics. The Assembly concluded a two-week conference at the University of California here today. Dr. Kaplan is professor of physics at the University of California at Los Angeles. One of his best-known contributions to science was his discovery of laboratory production of auroral spectrum and light-of-night sky.
