Israel Government leaders paid tribute Friday to Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, vice president of the Israel Bond Organization for the past 14 years, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Dr. Schwartz was guest of honor at a luncheon at which he was presented with a scroll signed by Premier Golda Meir and Finance Minister Zeev Sharef lauding his role “in the saga of Jewish revival in the land of our fathers.” The scroll was the first document signed by Mrs, Meir when she became Premier last week. Mr. Schwartz directed the world-wide rescue operations of the Joint Distribution Committee during World War II. He was executive vice chairman of the United Jewish Appeal from 1951 to 1955.
