Dr. Judah L. Magnes, dean of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, sailed today from Southampton on the New Amsterdam for New York. On his way to the United States, Dr. Magnes spent several weeks on the continent. He visited Italy. France and Switzerland where he conferred with Dr. Weizmana during the Zionist Congress.
The purpose of Dr. Macues’ visit to the United States is to acquaint the American public with the progress made by the Hebrew University since his last trip to the United States in 1925.
Before sailing. Dr. Magnes stated that while in America he intends to inaugurate a movement for creating a large endowment fund for the Hebrew University and to secure new academic connections for the University. Mrs. Magnes is accompanying Dr. Magnes. The steamer is expected to arrive in New York on September 30.
