Appointment of Dr. Judah J. Shapiro as secretary of the advanced studies program of the Yivo Institute for Jewish Research was announced today. Dr. Shapiro will organize the center which is sponsored by the Yivo Research and Development Fund. The center, according to Julius Borenstein, chairman of the Yivo executive committee, will have a research academy for mature scholars and a graduate school of Jewish studies for the training of younger scholars.
Dr. Shapiro was first secretary of the National Foundation for Jewish Culture and previously had been national director of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundations and director of Jewish cultural and educational reconstruction of the Joint Distribution Committee.
