Dr. Julien Weill, Grand Rabbi of Paris since 1933 and a hero of the resistance movement in this country during the Nazi occupation, died here today at the age of 77. Last year he was named a member of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his services to France.
Although he was arrested on numerous occasions by the Nazis, he remained steadfast in his refusal to leave Paris and stayed in the French capital throughout the war. Formerly president of the Society of Jewish Studies of France and the author of several books on Jewish history and religion, he played a leading role in the rebuilding of French Jewry after the war’s end.
