Havas News Agency reported that word was received today of the sudden death in Moscow of Dr. Julius Tandler, noted anatomist and former director of the municipal sanitary services here.
Dr. Tandler was arrested on his return to Vienna from China in March, 1934, on suspicion of having been implicated in the workers’ revolt against the Dollfuss regime, but he was released after a short investigation. He was later invited by the Soviet government to go to Moscow to reorganize that city’s sanitary system.
Dr. Tandler lectured at the New York University Medical School in 1934 before going to China. While in New York, he gave an interview to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in which he linked the fate of the Jews to that of the Social Democrats under the Fascist regime in Austria. In Vienna, he had been a leader of the Social Democrats.
