The Los Angeles Jewish Federation today announced the resignation of Dr. Maurice J. Karpf, its executive director. The resignation will become effective Dec. 1, 1946, which will mark the completion of five years of service by Dr. Karpf with the Federation.
Leading members of the Federation’s board expressed regret at the fact that Dr. Karpf has declined to withdraw his resignation. They expressed the hope that he would remain in Los Angeles so that his counsel may be available to the community. Dr. Karpf plans to spend the next year or two in completing some important research and writing which he interrupted when he assumed the Federation directorship. Part of his time will also be devoted to consultation with communities and agencies on their problems.
Dr. Karpf is the author of several books on social work and community organization. Before going to Los Angeles, he was head of the Graduate School for Jewish Social Work in New York City for 17 years. He is a member of the executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, representing the non-Zionists of that body.
