Dr. I. J. Kligler, American head of the Hebrew University’s department of hygiene and bacteriology, who is cooperating with the United States Medical Organization in the Near East, has arrived in the United States, it was announced today by the American Friends of the Hebrew University here.
In a statement issued here today, Dr. Kligler stressed the importance of the Hebrew University and Palestine in making the Middle East Supply Center more self-sufficient, and thus relieving the strain on over-taxed British shipping. “It is a fact of major importance,” he said, “that Palestine is recognized today as the center of scientific activity in the Middle East. The University has taken the lead in obtaining this recognition from the civil and military bodies, and there can be no doubt that the scientific research done in this center will affect favorably both Palestine and the Middle East in the days of peace and economic and social reconstruction.”
