In a subsequent statement issued here today through the American Fund for Israel Institutions, which will sponsor the nationwide tour of the Israel Symphony Orchestra in the United States, Dr. Serge Koussevitzky made it clear that Arturo Toscanini has not as yet been invited to conduct the 100-member orchestra in New York, but that such an invitation is now being drafted.
The invitation to Mr. Toscanini will be signed by Dr. Koussevitzky and Leonard Bernstein who are sharing in the musical direction of the ten-week tour. In his statement today Dr. Koussevitzky expressed the hope that “Mr. Toscanini will be able to join us in this important event in the noble history of music.” Mr. Toscanini directed the first concert of the orchestra in Jerusalem in December, 1936.
