Dr. Leo Baeck, president of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, who has just completed a tour of Jewish communities in the United States on behalf of the American Jewish Cavalcade, has been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Hebrew Letters by Dropsie College here.
In presenting the degree to the 75-year-old rabbi, who as leader of German Jewry during the period of Nazi domination spent more than two years in a concentration camp, Dr. Abraham A. Neuman, president of the college, described Dr. Baeck as the “symbol of the transference of Jewish culture from the grave of Germany to the living soil of cur beloved Waited States.”
