Impressive funeral services were held yesterday for Dr. Max Meyerhof, 70, one of the world’s most eminent eye specialists in Cairo’s Ashkenazi Synagogue. Dr. Meyerhof was affectionately known by thousands of Egyptians from all walks of life as “Dr. Max,”
Despite his seventy years he was considered a sort of magician for his operations which saved innumerable persons from blindness. He was also known as an outstanding Orientalist and wrote several books on the scientific heritage of the Arabs. He was a cousin of Professor Otto Meyerhof who received the Nobel Medical Prize in 1922.
