Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the Jewish Agency, left Brazil yesterday after launching the 1957 United Campaign in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s industrial center. (Dr. Goldmann is expected in New York today.) Another major figure at the campaign inauguration was Horecio Lafer, former Finance Minister of Brazil and a leading Jew.
In his address to a crowded meeting, Dr. Goldmann called on the Jews of this generation to make up for the loss of 6,000,000 European Jews by guaranteeing that Egyptian, Eastern European and other Jewish refugees are received in Israel. He noted that the recent Sinai campaign, a military and political victory, was an economic setback for the Jewish State.
