Dr. Nahum Goldmann, diplomatic representative of Israel, in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, today criticized Britain’s policy on Palestine as “unrealistic,” adding that “we have no desire for any conflict with the United Nations, but it is inconceivable for us to abandon the Negev.”
Declaring that the “whole position would be different if peace negotiations with the Arabs could be initiated,” Dr. Goldmann said that “I am sure that once the parties sit down at a peace conference table, agreement could be reached since Israel is most eager for mutual friendship with the Arabs.”
Predicting that Israel will withstand any attacks on the economic front as well as it has on the military front, Dr. Goldmann said: “Immediate British recognition of Israel would be a definite stabilizing factor in the Palestine situation and would encourage the Arabs to enter into negotiations.”
