Dr. Otto Loewi, Nobel Prize winner in medicine, who has been residing in the United States since 1938 when he left Austria following his release from “protective custody,” marked his 70th birthday here today at a small celebration attended by friends and his colleagues on the faculty of the New York University College of Medicine.
Dr. Loewi received the Nobel Prize in 1936 for research on the chemical transmission of nervous impulses. From the time he received his medical degree from the University of Frankfort, in 1896, until he came to this country, Dr. Loewi taught at leading German and Austrian universities.
