Dr. Emanuel H. Piore, a leading Jewish physicist, has been named by President Johnson’s Science Advisory Committee to head a special panel of scientists who will review the operations of all United States Government research laboratories. The review is expected to lead to a completely new policy in such federal research activities.
Dr. Piore, a vice-president of the International Business Machines Corporation, helped establish the National Science Foundation in his earlier career as a Government scientist. A former head of the electronics division of the U. S. Office of Naval Research, he has served as an advisor on scientific matters to many United States Presidents. He has served also as head of the special weapons division of the Navy bureau of ships, and as physicist in the research laboratory of electronics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
