Dr. Rudolph Coffee of Oakland, Cal., was again elected to head the California Jewish Committee for Personal Service in State Institutions, ministering to the needs of the Jewish inmates in these institutions.
Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Dr. Rudolph I. Coffee, Oakland, President; Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin, Los Angeles, 1st Vice-President; Samuel I. Fox, San Diego, 2nd Vice-President; Alfred F. Meyer, San Francisco, 3rd Vice-President; Albert Elkus, Sacramento, Secretary, and Herbert J. Gosliner, San Francisco, Treasurer.
Harry J. Sapper of Oakland submitted a budget for the ensuing year, and this was accepted as submitted.
Roy Bruce of the State Department of Institutions announced that permission had just been granted the Committee to visit the State Narcotic Hospital in the southern part of the state.
M. P. Ostrow, Executive Director of the Eureka Benevolent Society, spoke of the far-reaching effects of the work of the Jewish Committee, stressing particularly the importance of educating the public along the lines of mental hygiene.
I. Irving Lipsitch, Executive Director of the Federation of Jewish Welfare Organization of Los Angeles and one of the organizers of the Jewish Committee, told of the progress made by the Committee since its inception, and the place that this Committee would fill in the years to come.
