Dr. S. Bernstein, editor of “Dos Yiddishe Folk,” Yiddish organ of the Zionist Organization of America, sailed for Palestine on the steamer Aquitania. He will remain abroad six weeks.
During his stay in Palestine, Dr. Bernstein was entrusted with the special mission of making arrangements with the Zionist Executive in Jerusalem by which American relatives may facilitate the entry of prospective Jewish immigrants to Palestine, even though they are not classified under the labor schedule or under the category of persons with means. This could be accomplished by a guarantee of the American relatives that the immigrants will receive a minimum amount for their livelihood. This is of special importance in the case of parents and elderly persons who are receiving support from America in the countries where they now reside and are desirous of settling in the Holy Land. Proposals to this effect have been made on previous occasions, but Dr. Bernstein was given the task to bring about a final agreement on the matter.
Before his departure, Dr. Bernstein was the guest of honor at a luncheon on this occasion under the auspices of members of the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization of America and a group of Hebrew and Yiddish writers. Harry Fierst acted as toastmaster.
