Reports were current in many quarters of Berlin today that Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, Reich Minister of Economics, has submitted his resignation to Reich Chancellor Hitler.

Although the reports could not be confirmed, it was recalled here that in a recent speech Dr. Schacht had hinted he would resign if there was any danger of the Government resorting to inflation.

The report of the resignation coincides with an announcement by the Reichsbank revealing that the gold reserve has suffered a loss of 5,909,000 marks in the past week, leaving a reserve of only eighty two million marks. The statement asserts that the gold loss is due to expenditures abroad for foodstuffs.
