Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, has been selected by Yeshiva University as winner of its annual $1,000 Mordecai Ben David Foundation Award, it was announced here.
At the same time it was revealed than an anonymous contribution of $50,000 in 1940, which made possible the establishment of the award, came from the late Enrico Garda, former ambassador from San Marino to France, who was a resident of the United States since 1940 until his death four months ago. The award is made annually for the “promotion and encouragement of self-respect, self-defense, independence and courage among members of the Jewish faith.”
