The Rev. Dr. Joseph Silverman, rabbi-emeritus of Temple Emmanu-El, will sail on Tuesday for Palestine for the purpose of getting first hand information on conditions there.
“There has been so much discussion and controversy on the subject of Palestine that I have made up my mind to go there and satisfy myself as to the facts by close observation and study”, Dr. Silverman declares.
“It is my purpose to travel by automobile through the entire country visiting all the important cities as well as the colonies that have been established there by means of Jewish labor and capital. I intend also to interview representatives of the Moslems, Jews and Christians in order to find out at first hand the exact relations between these elements to one another, and thus be in a position to answer the prejudiced reports which I know have been circulated.
“I am after the truth and I hope to bring back a report that shall be authentic and authoritative on all the facts connected with the settlement of Jews in Palestine.
“I undertake the trip to Palestine at this time because, in the course of my recent trip to the West on behalf of the Palestine Foundation Fund I became convinced that it was necessary to bring to the people not merely hearsav reports of Palestine, but authentic and first hand information.”
Dr. Silverman was tendered a farewell reception Saturday evening by the Keren Hayesed at the Hotel Astor. Herman Conheim was chairman and among the speakers were Dr. Nathan Krass, Rabbi Max Drob and Morris Rothenberg.
