Dr. Ephraim A. Speiser has been elected assistant professor in semitics at the University of Pennsylvania, according to an announcement in the Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research. Dr. Speiser will succeed Professor Chiera. Doctor Speiser will also attend the Oxford Congregation of Orientalists, being one of the representatives of the University of Pennsylvania.
Doctor Speiser is twent-six years old. He is a graduate of the Gymnasium at Lemberg; was a Fellow and Ph.D. of Dropsie College in 1925; held a Harrison research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and was twice in succession awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He engaged in archaeological work in the neighborhood of Bagdad. Many of his finds will be sent to the Dropsie College, the funds for the excavations having been contributed through friends of the college.
