Rabbi Stephen S. Wise was among the eight church leaders who received honorary degrees from the Syracuse University in conjunction with the dedication of the $600,000 memorial chapel erected as a gift of the late Senator Francis Hendricks.
In bestowing the degree, Chancellor Charles W. Flint, said of Rabbi Wise: “Founder and rabbi of a great Jewish synagogue—Ever in the forefront of movements for your own racial and religious expression and achievement, ever in the forefront of movements for a better social order for all races and religions, as an influential fellow-religionist and as an outstanding fellow-American citizen.”
