Dr. Ari Sternfeld, the noted Soviet Jewish physicist and astronomer, a pioneer in the Soviet space program, has been awarded by the Supreme Soviet the Order of Meritorious Services to Soviet Science, it was reported here today from Moscow. The award is the highest for scientific achievement given in the USSR. Dr. Sternfeld, born in Lodz, speaks Yiddish and Hebrew fluently. He settled in Moscow after World War II.
