Dr. Wellisch, a close co-worker with Dr. Theodor Herzl, died here suddenly yesterday.
Dr. Moses Einhorn was feted at a reception and dinner given on the occasion of his return from Palestine. Abraham Goldberg was toastmaster. Among those who addressed the gathering were Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Louis Lipsky, Charles A. Cowen and Dr. Nathan ###tnoff.
A course in Comparative Religion will be given by Dr. Dora Askowith, at the Jewish Institute of Religion, on Sunday afternoons.
The course will constitute a study of the origin, development and inter-relation of the major religious systems from primitive times to the present time. Special emphasis will be placed upon the comparative study of religious ceremonial. The lectures will be illustrated by material gathered by Dr. Askowith during her research work abroad, especially in Palestine.
Joseph Goldberg, Chicago police lieutenant, was promoted to captaincy in the department. Goldberg is Chicago’s youngest captain and also the first Jew to be named to this office.
Figures compiled at the University of Illinois, show that fifty-eight religious denominations are represented among the student body. Of the students registered, 1,971 express no religious preference and three state they are agnostics. The Methodists lead with 1,952. Presbyterians second with 1,092 and Catholics third with 726. Those professing adherence to the Jewish faith are eighth on the list with 359.
