Dr. Solomon Zeitlin, professor of rabbinics at the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning, has completed a biography of Maimonides, it was announced here today by Dr. Cyrus Adler, president. The book is expected to be ready for release on April 2.
In this work, Dr. Zeitlin makes a new approach to the great philosopher, jurist, physician and leader and shows the development of his mind and his influence by summarizing in their chronological order his various great works.
The book, written in popular vein, also analyzes the political and economic reasons that motivated the movement against Maimonides and gives an account of his influence in history and the message which he has for Jews today.
ORT WOMEN TO HONOR MAIMONIDES TONIGHT
The 800th anniversary of the birth of Maimonides will be celebrated at the general membership meeting of the Women’s American ORT at eight o’clock tonight at the home of Mrs. R. Pallay Panken, 59 West Twelfth street, it was announced yesterday by Mrs. Florence R. Dolowitz, president of the Women’s American ORT.
Rabbi Hyman Schachtel of the West End Synagogue will speak on the significance of Maimonides and his influence on thought throughout the ages.
This meeting will also serve as a farewell to M. and Mme. Boden-heimer of Paris, leaders of the French ORT, who are soon to return to France.
