The Selective Service Commission has instructed all draft boards to give “favorable consideration whenever possible” to requests from Jewish registrants for postponement of their physical examinations or induction into the armed forces during the forthcoming Jewish High Holy Days. The commission’s instructions apply to Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 13-14); Yom Kippur (Sept. 22) and Sukkoth (Sept. 27-Oct. 5).
The commission informed Rabbi Edward T. Sandrow, chairman of the National Jewish Welfare Board’s chaplaincy commission, of its action.
