Drop in Jewish Immigration to Canada Reported; 2,826 Admitted

The number of Jewish immigrants admitted to Canada in the first nine months of 1953 decreased by 27 percent as compared with the Jewish immigrants admitted in the same period of 1952, the statistics bureau of the Canadian Jewish Congress revealed today.

A total of 2,826 Jews were admitted from January 1, 1953 to September 30, 1953, while 3,894 arrived in the corresponding period last year. While Jewish immigration dropped 27 percent, general immigration declined 8 percent, but German immigrants increased by 16 percent. This September, 156 Jews were admitted as against 367 in September, 1952.
