The Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry reported that 1767 Jews emigrated from the Soviet Union in June, a drop of 52 percent from the monthly average of 1979. The SSS, said that 1206, or 68 percent, of the 1767 decided not to go to Israel once they left the USSR. The SSSJ noted that the number of dropouts represented the highest monthly rate so for in 1980.

(In Geneva, the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration also reported that only 1767 Jewish migrants from the Soviet Union arrived in Austria, the transit point from the USSR to other countries, during June compared with 4350 in June 1979. However, the Intergovernmental Committee also reported that 1750 migrants from the USSR arrived in Italy during June bringing the cumulative total of such arrivals during the first six months of 1980 to 4500. The Committee noted that during June 3100 Soviet migrants — 740 of them non-Jews — left Italy for the United States and that only 625 Soviet Jews of those that arrived in Vienna during June left for Israel.)
