An important decree which will stimulate industry and export in Palestine is published today in the Palestine Gazette, providing for the repayment of customs duties to manufacturers.
All manufacturers who are paying duty on raw materials imported from abroad will have the duty repaid by the government after turning the raw material into commodities for export, the Gazette announces.
WIDENS MARKETS SCOPE
The effect of this decree will be to put Palestine manufacturers in a position to look for new markets and increase their exports to the countries of the Near East. {SPAN}Re#evd{/SPAN} of customs duties, they will be enabled to compete particularly with Syria in the manufacture of confectionery and with Egypt in the textile field.
The decree is a result of the ta### negotiations conducted recently by the Palestine government with the governments of Syria and Egypt.
Negotiations started today between Jerusalem and the Palestine government to reduce the price of water until the water construction plan for Jerusalem is accomplished. The plan will not be put into effect before May, 1936, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was informed today, but the digging of a new pool will soon be started, in order to alleviate the immediate water shortage in Jerusalem.
