The public prosecutor here today dropped his appeal to a higher court in connection with the conviction of Dr. Martin Marx, representative here of the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, and Ferdinand Muehrdel, former head of the Frankfurt political police.
Both men had been acquitted of bribery charges but were sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment for conduct unbecoming their positions. The prosecutor had filed an appeal for a more severe sentence. Since he has now dropped the appeal, the lower court verdict stands and the two men will soon be freed since they spent five months in prison awaiting trial and almost two months have elapsed since their conviction.
