Large areas of northern Israel are threatened by drought, officials reported today. They said the lack of rain during the first half of Dec., normally the beginning of the rainy season, has dangerously lowered the level of Lake Tiberias which is the main reservoir for the region. The level is declining at the rate of one centimeter per day. Many fields have had to be resown and are watered artificially. A temporary dam has been built at the confluence of Lake Tiberias and the Jordan River in order to reduce the outflow of water from the lake.
