A check for $50,000 was presented here today by David Dubinsky, Jewish labor leader and president of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union, to Sir Walter Citrine to be used as initial payment for a home in London to be used as a club for American and British sailors.
The ceremony took place at a luncheon tendered Sir Walter, British Labor leader, at the Hotel Commodore. Speakers at the luncheon disclosed that the Jewish Labor Committee in New York has raised more than $500,000 which was spent on war relief activities and in helping leaders of the labor movement in Nazi-held Europe seek safety in overseas countries.
