Dudley D. Sicher was elected president of the New York Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies at a meeting of the board of trustees of the organization at the Harmonie Club. Following the election, Felix M. Warburg, chairman of the Federation board, presided over a dinner given by the board in honor of the newly-elected president and of Sol M. Stroock, whose third term as president came to a close.
Mr. Sicher becomes the fifth president of the Federation, his predecessors in office being Felix M. Warburg, named as first president when the Federation was founded in 1917; Arthur Lehman, now associate chairman of the board; Joseph L. Buttenwieser and Mr. Stroock. Since 1917 the ninety-one local institutions embraced in Federation have expended $88,000,000 toward which the Federation has contributed $43,000,000.
Mr. Sicher is president of the New York City Conference of Charities and until his election as president of the Federation was chairman of the Business Men’s Council of the Federation. Last March. Mr. Sicher, then just past his fifty-first birthday, announced his intention to devote his entire time to philanthropic work, liquidating his underwear manufacturing business.
Other officers elected were Felix M. Warburg, chairman of the board; Arthur Lehman, associate chairman of the board; Eli H. Bernheim, Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, Samuel D. Leidesdorf and Jacob Sperber, vice-presidents; Herman Lissner, secretary; Walter E. Beer, treasurer; Louis J. Grumbach, associate treasurer; Albert J. Erdmann, comptroller; and Solomon Lowenstein, executive director.
