Hyman Bookbinder, special adviser to Michael Dukakis’ presidential campaign, wrote Vice President George Bush this week urging him to use his meeting Thursday with New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu to discuss Sununu’s unwillingness to approve a resolution condemning the 1975 United Nations vote equating Zionism with racism.
Bookbinder, adviser on the Middle East, human rights and the underprivileged, said that Sununu, national co-chairman of the Bush campaign, is the “only governor out of 50 unwilling to repudiate a terrible law.”
He added that Sununu “now serves as a key leader and strategist of the Bush campaign and would presumably be a key adviser in a Bush administration.”
Sununu, an Arab-American, told reporters at the National Press Club last week that he has not signed such a resolution because he did not feel it is appropriate for a governor to meddle in foreign policy.
He added that the main thrust of his policy input in the Bush campaign has been on the domestic side.
