The United Israel Fund campaign in Spain is expected to raise approximately 50 percent more funds this year than it did last year, World Zionist Organization Treasurer Leon Dulzin reported, on his return from a visit to Spain. He said the 11,000 Jews of Spain will have contributed some $600,000 to the Fund. Dulzin said he found a “warm and Zionist” community, with growing interest in Israel. Thousands of Jews participated in Independence Day events, he said.
Dulzin noted that most of the Spanish community enjoys a relatively good standard of living. The Jewish youth has recently set up a communal youth organization, which is quite popular. The Jewish community in Madrid is currently raising funds for a new Jewish school for some 500 students.
